JHufner's GalleryPosted by Jason Hufner on 2/14/2007When I look at a blank canvas, I want it to tell me what to do. I have sometimes spent days looking at a canvas, waiting for inspiration. Looking at a white canvas I can see the shapes and colors, “glow” on the blank canvas, I can see where the paint needs to be, what shape it need to be. I feel allowing the paint and canvas to control the painting, makes for a better process. I want the painting develop organically.
I find that painting allows me to truly express myself in a way that no other creative outlet could. I love the feeling I get when a painting comes into my head and then seeing it come to completion. I don’t work with an easel, rather working on the floor, standing over the canvas. I believe that I can get a better view of the painting working that way. I work with brushes and palette knives, but recently I've been working with my fingers or drawing with the tube of paint. I like to feel the paint on the canvas, also hearing the sound the rim of the tube makes when it’s dragging against the rough texture of the canvas. I try to get texture into my paintings. Images
