This is an art sculpture I created in my Free Form Woodworking class at Red Rocks CC. Our assignment was to have 6 blocks of wood 4 inches by 4 inches and create something out of it. I first saw this poplar piece with a green line going right down the middle and knew it was the wood to use. I first bandsawed out all the 6 pieces to a connection i was intrigued by. I then carved and spindle sanded the blocks to their shapes. Added the malachite crystals by inlaying them in four different pieces where the green streak of poplar was. I then used a burning tool and designs some interesting patterns to flow with the piece. I then used oil paint and followed the woodgrain in blending different colors on. I then shined it with a bunch of sprayed on coats of laquer. a near 40 hours put into this piece of art.
Available for $200.
